Culture - Cultúr

The broad aim of our Cultural Committee is to promote all aspects of Irish Culture, including our native language, history, music and dancing, to all our club members and our local community.   We encourage everyone, young and old, to get involved and explore their heritage.  To that endeavour, during Spring time, we will be running a number of events to help promote Irish Language and culture from the 5th - 17th March, which will be known as ‘Ceiliúradh na Gaeilge’ (A celebration of Irish Language).

The Irish Language is particularly significant within Lámh Dhearg considering our strong history of Gaeilgeoirs; both past and present.  We believe that it is right to provide an environment whereby the language can prosper.  We also believe that there is no such thing as a fluent speaker in any language – people simply have varying levels of fluency.  We encourage all non-Irish speakers to take those first nervous steps onto the ladder of fluency and begin their journey and for those whose knowledge is more advanced, we encourage you to build on that knowledge and flourish.

We have a fantastic calendar of events for all including Irish Language courses, social events, traditional music workshops, hill walks, summer schemes and much, much more.

We believe that simple, positive steps can help to engage the entire community and help raise the profile of the Irish Language.  Please check out our programme of events and we hope to see you very soon.
